All courses are offered on a maximum 3:1 Instructor ratio and cater for all levels of operator as follows:

Novice (3 days, a part from shunting which is 5 days) Operator Courses are for individuals who have very little or no experience of operating forklift trucks.

Refresher (usually 1 day) Operator courses are for forklift drivers who hold the relevant certificate for the type of truck on which they require training.

Refresher courses are recommended where operators have not used trucks for some time, are occasional users, appear to have developed unsafe working practices, have had an accident or near miss, or there is a change in their working practices or environment.

Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 there is no specific requirement to provide refresher training at set intervals.

However even trained and experienced fork lift operators need to be re-assessed from time to time to ensure that they continue to operate lift trucks safely.

The length of time between refreshers can not be stated as every operators situation will vary dependant on experience and skill levels.

Most companies decide on their own period between refresher tests, but the usual duration between refresher courses is around 2-5 years

Conversion (2 days) courses are for operators who have done formal training previously on one type of truck and are converting to another type of truck e.g. Counterbalance to Reach and vice versa.

All operators who hold forklift truck licences must provide evidence of their current certification
